Maria Hatling is a print-maker and artist from Norway, currently living and working in London. Her work is based on nostalgic memories of Scandinavia and has a strong mid-century aesthetic.
Maria has rejected many of the traditional print-making techniques and has chosen to create her artwork directly onto the computer, although it still maintains a pen to paper feel.
Before launching her own line of prints and soft furnishings at the end of 2010 Hatling worked as an in-house designer for the prestigious brand Orla Kiely.
We are pleased to have Maria on board at Elphick’s and we are sure she’s going to have a successful career in her own right.
My favourite has to be the swan.
Anyone who bought The Times on Sunday will have been amazed to discover the breathtaking work of the 28 year old artist Sohei Nishino. Nishino spent last summer in London photographing the city from various vantage points. 10,000 photographs were edited down to 4,00 and reassembled in his Tokyo studio using scissors and glue (a man after my own heart). The above image is just a section of the Diorama map, its finished size measures a rather impressive 230cm x 128cm. Others cities depicted include Tokyo, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Kyoto. I am completely blown away by these images and can’t wait to see his upcoming show at the Michael Hoppen Gallery. Now he really does have the patience of a saint!
They may have a slightly morbid name but it cheered me up no end when I discovered these beautiful Widow Iris at my local florist today. The scented Narcissi are throwing out the most glorious smell to remind me that Spring is literally just around the corner. Sitting happily together in this Guernsey Pottery vase the whole ensemble is brightening up my kitchen a treat.
