Bird in Bloom Etching

January 27, 2010

New Year, new etching! I started etching again after long break at Christmas and it’s great to be back. I’ve been working on this one for some time and managed to print it for the first time last week. For any of you who are familiar with my work you will have noticed I have recreated the collage version of ‘Bird in Bloom’. All those long hours of drawing have paid off and I am really pleased with the results. You can find out more about the size and price by looking at www.elphicksshop

Chine Colle

February 9, 2009

I am still trying to perfect the art of etching and in particular the technique of Chine Colle. It feels like I am kind of getting there after discovering some fantastic Japanese papers at Falkiners. I am particularly happy with this colour combination.

I have now finally mastered how to print my etchings, better still they are getting a fantastic response. I have already sold half of the edition of the ‘Tree’ further on in the blog. Here is a new variation of my owl etching. Can’t wait to start the new term in January.

Mono Tree

My etching course is over, for the summer at least. This stylized tree took some time, three days to be exact but it was worth it, all that etching is very therapeutic you know.

Etch a Sketch

May 28, 2008

I started an etching course at The Princes Drawing School at the beginning of the year which I really enjoy, it’s great to be drawing again after so many years looking through a lens.

Here are some of my etchings…….

‘Owl’ is inspired by a Japanese cast iron owl I bought at Shelf on Cheshire Street, London E2, ‘Russian Bird’ is a drawing of a Russian ceramic that I bought and sold at Elphick’s and ‘V & A Study’ is the result of a day spent drawing at The Victoria and Albert Museum.
