Van Doesburg at the Tate Modern

February 25, 2010

Friday night at the Tate is one of my favourite past times, open late till 10pm it’s an opportunity to have a look at the artwork without having to fight for space. Last Friday I went to see the Van Doesburg exhibition which I would highly recommend. Great to see lots of abstract paintings executed with gouache (something I haven’t used since school), in beautiful subtle colours on discoloured paper. In fact I’m going to get myself down the art shop and purchase a set of Windsor and Newton’s. You can find a better description of what you will find at the show here

Late Night Love Songs

February 10, 2010

New print just in time for Valentines, a collaboration between the artist James Brown and the poet Alison Gibb. Designed by James, written by Alison and printed by the duo, ‘Late Night Love Songs – Heart FM’ uses nostalgic love song lyrics to create a narrative poem that celebrates the emotional turmoil of ‘having the hots’ for someone. See if you can spot the songs….

The Museum of Everything

February 4, 2010

I’ve just been to The Museum of Everything and seen the best exhibition I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve have been a fan of Art Brut (a phrase coined by one of my favourite artists Jean Dubuffet), since 1986 when I started my studies at Worthing Art College, so this exhibition was a real treat and truely inspiring. It’s not on for much longer, I think it finishes on Feb 14th so get down there quick. For more information click the following link

Madge Gill was one of my favourites, Untitled 1945 shown below.

Two Up, Two Down

February 3, 2010

Beautiful (newish) screen print by Lisa Jones, she’s just released another print in time for Valentines and as you can probably gather I’m finding it hard to keep up. This print just makes me want to jump right into the picture, I’m sure you would have an idyllic existence in this blue and white residence. Buy online at

One Bird, Two Birds

February 3, 2010

Although these prints have been available at Elphick’s for a few weeks now, I’ve only just got around to posting them on the blog. Time just seems to be whizzing by, I can’t believe it’s February already. ‘One Bird’ and ‘Two Birds’ (I love those titles Kate), are in very small editions so if you love them as much as I do, you’d better buy one quick before they sell out! It’s amazing how Kate has managed to make these prints look so simple when such a huge amount of time and effort has gone into making them. ‘One Bird’ is a 10 colour screen print, with ‘Two Birds’ being a staggering 13 colour print.
