Ping

December 1, 2014

ping‘Ping’ Sharon Elphick 2014.

This is the latest collage, based on geometry using pages from a 1958 and a 1968 copy of Paris Match. These works are definitely inspired by my love of the Bauhaus movement, I think they’d make lovely textile designs. I named it ‘Ping’ because someone had written the word in pencil, on one of the pages.

One Green Square

onegreensquare‘One Green Square’ Sharon Elphick 2014

I will be showing this collage at the East London Design Show, starting this Thursday. It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to show my own work, for the past seven years my attention had been focused on the retail space on Columbia Road. However, after a couple of months at the new studio I am getting into my creative flow and enjoying the results. I’m loving the simplicity of the geometry and the subtle colours and tones that I find in the vintage magazines.

I completed this collage yesterday, I seem to be getting slower, always so much to do. For this artwork I used a copy of Paris Match from the 4th of May 1968. I was born in November 1968 so it’s one of my favourite years, and these are some of my favourite colours. I’ve just put it up for sale here.

Happy Friday

I completed this collage on the 24th of October, which was a Friday, hence the name! It proved to be a happy Sunday too, as it sold on the 26th. I’m really pleased with the success of the new works as they are a new direction for me, which my customers seem to love.

Twelve Squares

October 3, 2014

twelvesquares(web)Sharon Elphick. ‘Twelve Squares’

So at the beginning of the week I set myself a challenge to create 10 original artworks of postcard size by today. I’ve been cutting and sticking all week but I think I set my sights a little too high, productivity amounted to a total of 4! However, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and it has given me great satisfaction to see new work by ME on Elphick’s website. I am going to stay true to my word and offer ten originals for £65 but I think completion is more likely to be by the end of next week. The four that are finished to date are available now at www.elphicksshop.com

Is it Just Me or is This the Way Love is Supposed to Be.

We’ve been selling Russell’s work since 2009, following a tip off from a couple of friends who’d seen his debut show ‘Tales from a Park Bench’ in Camden.

Always a successful staple at Elphick’s, Russell’s attribution of emotions to animals has appealed to me and customers alike.

The thought provoking text evokes powerful emotions, which are often funny, touching and sometimes shocking.

His work combines illustration and collage with found ephemera, which is often housed in vintage frames.

The new works are available in-store at Columbia Road and a run of limited edition prints are available online.

Seasonal Etchings by Sharon Elphick

October 3, 2012

Spring. Sharon Elphick.

Summer. Sharon Elphick.

Autumn. Sharon Elphick.

Winter. Sharon Elphick.

Four Seasons. Sharon Elphick.

I started working on this plate at The Prince’s Drawing School back in 2008. Recently I decided to work on a set based on the seasons and for some reason squirreled them away. Maybe it was the arrival of Autumn that made me think of them again and put them in the window at Columbia Road. They had such a lovely response last weekend, that I’ve decided to share them here too. They are available to purchase as individual seasons or as a set of four right here.
