David Weidman

September 2, 2010

We’ve been selling David Weidman’s prints for quite some time now after the discovery of his book ‘The Whimsical World of David Weidman’ at Magma book shop. A little bit of research and a phone number later I was straight on the phone. In my excitement I’d forgotten the time difference in LA and woke both Dorothy (his wife) and Lenna (his daughter), in the middle of the night. To my surprise rather than being upset at my faux pas they were delighted that a gallery in London had discovered David’s work.

Weidman’s work is experiencing a revival after the retailer Urban Outfitters approached him about applying his designs to a range of products for their US based stores (fingers crossed those products will make their way across the pond).

It’s great that at 89 David’s work is finally getting the recognition it deserves. If you would like to know more about his life and work click here for a recent article in the LA Times.

We have three prints available to buy online at Elphick’s (pictured) or visit the shop where we will have a small selection of signed and numbered prints.

The new batch of David Weidman’s prints have arrived, here’s Flamingos II one of my favourites. Just organising the framing so hopefully they will be available to view next weekend. I will have some unframed prints in the browser this weekend so get down to 160 Columbia Road asap to avoid disappointment  as these beauties sell out real quick.

September 16, 2009

Lenna (David’s daughter) has been sending me some snaps of David Weidman’s serigraphs so that I can get an idea of the  different colour ways available. I have just placed a new order, the last batch sold out really quickly and as before these are all original screen prints from the 60’s and 70’s. I thought I would share a couple of them with you before they arrive. The first image is titled ‘Two Birds’ and the second ‘Cat and Flowers’. Copyright David Weidman 2009.

David Weidman

July 16, 2009

The David Weidman screen prints have arrived and they are so beautiful, the print quality is stunning, no image could do them justice, these have to be seen in the flesh. Considering these were printed over 40 years ago they are in mint condition. Prices start at a very affordable £47 for an unsigned Serigraph, with signed and editioned prints starting at £137. This print is one of my favourites titled ‘Flowers’ measuring 51cm x 66cm it costs £158 unframed.
